Ordering Pharmaceuticals and Controlled Substances

Not all users with rights to purchase supplies have rights to purchase pharmaceuticals. Your hospital’s Zoasis account administrator must give you special rights before you will be able to purchase any pharmaceuticals or controlled substances. Controlled Substances are Class 3, 4 or 5 drugs, as dictated by the DEA. The DEA requires a handwritten form for all orders of Class 2 pharmaceuticals. No user can order Class 2 drugs on Zoasis.

Below are two examples of a catalog search for Analgesic Injectables. The search on the top shows the catalog as viewed by a user with basic purchasing rights (“Purchaser”). The search on the bottom shows the same catalog as viewed by a user with rights to purchase restricted items (“Purchaser – Restricted”).

This user has basic rights and cannot order any pharmacy items requiring a prescription.

Note that both the “Quantity” and “Add to Cart” columns are inactivated to prevent this user from ordering these items.

This user has rights to purchase restricted items.

Note that the quantity window and shopping cart now appear for DEA class 4 and 5 drugs, as well as Prescription (Rx) items.

However, this user by law still cannot order DEA class 2 items.
